ROTHER is £3,000 out of pocket after someone broke into three ticket machines in Battle’s Mount Street car park.

Around £1,400 in change is believed to have been taken in the thefts, which happened sometime between 11.30pm on September 27 and the following morning.

The incident also left the council, which runs the car park, with a repair bill totalling several hundred pounds.

A white man dressed in black was captured on CCTV shortly before the thefts.

Police are examining the footage.

Council head of amenities Kim Ross said: “The council worked swiftly to repair and ensure machines were fully operational within six hours from the time the incident had been reported.

“This limited the loss of income.

“The damage has cost £1,600 and the estimated takings stolen £1,400.”
