Steyning man found guilty of sexual offences

A Steyning pensioner was found guilty of two counts of sexual offences against a girl under 13 today according to police.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said that John David Manvell, 67, formally of Mill Road, Steyning, appeared at Lewes Crown Court today (Friday July 18) and was found guilty of one count of inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity and one of sexual touching.

Detective Constable Dani Flude said: “The victim was extremely brave when she spoke at his trial this week and we have been supporting her throughout. We would like to thank her and her family for their courage.

“I am pleased that this case has been resolved with Manvell being found guilty of the two charges. We take reports of sexual offences very seriously and will make sure we do all we can to get justice for a victim. If anyone has any concerns about this kind of offence please speak to us.”

Manvell has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced on September 5.
