Police are investigating an unusual theft in Battle – a 10-foot-tall Victorian-style lamp standard.
The free-standing lamp was taken from a yard at the rear of the Nationwide Building Society’s High Street office.
It is believed to have been stolen overnight between Monday (December 7) and Tuesday (December 8).
Police community support officer and heritage crime officer Daryl Holter said: “ The lamp post had been set in a concrete base.
“It appears to have been pulled from its mountings by a vehicle and the cables connecting it to the electricity supply have been cut.”
Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious at the scene, or who may be offered such a lamp in suspicious circumstances.
