Distressed seal washed ashore at Brighton

A distressed seal has been washed ashore on the beach at Brighton this morning (Saturday).

The seal was spotted by members of Brighton Swimming Club and the alarm was raised.

A spokesperson for the Maritime Coastguard said, “The UK Coastguard received a 999 call at approximately 8.15am this morning to reports of an injured seal in the water near Brighton Pier; a swimmer stayed in the water nearby.

“The Shoreham Coastguard Rescue Team and Brighton inshore RNLI lifeboat were tasked to assist British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR).

“The seal is now out of the water and in the care of BDMLR.”
