ELECTION LIVE: Results as they are announced.

RESIDENTS across the Gazette area went to the polls yesterday (Thursday, May 5), to choose their local councillors.

A total of 82 candidates are fighting it out for the 29 seats on Arun District Council.

Today, the votes are being counted, at Arun Leisure Centre, and we will be bringing you the results, as they are announced.

In Walberton, there were 826 votes for Conservative Norman Dingemans, 219 for George Fletcher, of the Liberal Democrats, and UKIP candidate Jeannie Dunning received 176.

Mr Dingemans, therefore, has been re-elected as the ward’s district councillor.

The turnout was 51.1 per cent.

In Arundel, Conservatives Don Ayling, with 1,006 votes, and Paul Dendle, with 987, were elected to the district council.

Labour’s Julie Buckle received 347 votes, and independent candidate Peter Moss, 475.

Carol Vanner got 148 votes, and John Wedderburn, 198. Both are Liberal Democrats.

Turnout stood at 51.2 per cent.

Turnout in Littlehampton’s Brookfield ward was 37.55 per cent, and Conservatives Joyce Bowyer, with 718 votes and Alan Gammon, with 651, were elected.

Liberal Democrat Jamie Bennett received 377 votes, and fellow party member Richard Edwards, 315, with UKIP candidate Robert East, securing 286.

Labours candidates were Peter Henry and Stephen McConnell, who received 315 and 274 votes respectively.

Barnham has elected three Conservatives to Arun District Council, John Charles, with 1,699 votes, Jean Goad, with 2,012, and Dougal Maconachie, with 1,415.

Graham Parvin, Liberal Democrat, received 691 votes, Anchorette Parvin-Blackstone, also Lib Dem, 597.

BNP candidate, John Robinson, secured 244 votes, and Tricia Wales, fro UKIP, 543.

Turnout was 43.99 per cent.

Angmering recorded a turnout of 44.83 per cent, with Conservative Paul Bicknell, Julie Hazlehurst and Dudley Wensley, with 1,520, 1,404 and 1,324 votes repetitively, taking the seats.

Independent Don Harris secured 524 votes, Liberal Democrat Craig Bichard, 550, UKIP’s Julia Longhurst, 517, and Labour’s Peter Slowe, 538.

Liberal Democrat Nick Wiltshire has lost his Littlehampton Beach ward seat on the district council.

Dr James Walsh, also a Lib Dem, retained his seat, with 746 votes, and Conservative Emma Neno secured 732 votes, and was elected. Mr Wiltshire received 575 votes.

Also standing were Brian Dawe, for UKIP, and he received 230 votes, Monica Dibble and Derek Lansdale for Labour, who got 232 and 214 repetitively, and Conservative Jill Long, who secured 593 votes.

Littlehampton’s Ham ward saw a 36.55 per cent turnout.

Mike Northeast was elected, with 494 votes, as was Tony Squires, with 494. Both were Labour party candidates, and both retained their seats.

Conservative Marian Ayres recived 427 votes, Liberal Democrat Dave Leggatt, 204, and Conservative Delma Mayer-Pezhanzki, 313.

Daniel Purchese, Liberal Democrat, secured 112 votes, Bill Weights, Liberal Party, 85, Jenny Weights, Liberal Party, 110 and Shirley Western, UKIP, 169.

In River ward, Littlehampton, Conservatives David Britton and Jacky Pendleton took the two available seats.

Mr Brittan received 444 votes, and Ms Pendleton, 385.

Independent candidate Ck Alexander secures 181 votes, Liberal Democrat Ian Buckland, 325, Labour’s Daniel Goddard, 293 and UKIP’s Mary Lees, 190.

George O’Neill, of Labour, gained 348 votes and

Turnout was 37.75 per cent.

WICK with Toddington elected June Caffyn, with 780 votes, and Carol Emberson, with 690. Both are Conservative.

Labour’s Alan Butcher received 453 votes, Liberal Democrats Dave Botting, 327, and David Jones, 240.

Bill Mears, Labour, received 407 votes, and Elliot Weights, Liberal Party, 103.

Turnout was 39.12 per cent.

There was a 41.33 per cent turnout in Yapton.

Stephen Haymes, Conservative, was elected with 320 votes, as was Angus McIntyre, also Conservative, with 819.

Also standing were Derek Ambler, UKIP, who took 320 votes, Alice Jackson, Labour, 406, and Barbara Roberts, Liberal Democrat, 300.
