Emergency response to fire in Hastings town centre

Three fire engines and two ambulances were sent to a fire in Hastings town centre.

The emergency vehicles were called to Robertson Street, Hastings, at the junction with Claremont, at 11.52am.

A number of businesses, including a hair salon, were sealed off.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended a fire at a commercial premises in Hastings this morning (May 28) at 11.52am.

“Three appliances from Hastings and Bexhill were mobilised to a fire at a property in Claremont.

“Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and used two hose reel jets to tackle the fire.

“Everyone had already vacated the property and two women were treated at the scene, after breathing in smoke.

“Ambulance were in attendance and crews left the incident at 12.18.”

A firefighter at the scene described it as a ‘small fire’.
