Etchingham

FLOWER & DOG SHOW: The annual Flower and Dog Show will take place in The Church and Queens Garden tomorrow (September 12), 2pm. Your entries need to be staged in the Church between 8am and 10.30am, ready for judging, the church will be closed for judging promptly at 10.30. Entries for the Dog Show are taken at the ringside from 1.30pm. As in previous years there will be a display of old photos, postcards and memorabilia in the Church Chancel and choir stalls, so if you have missed the display in previous years a chance to see it.

HARVEST FESTIVAL: There will be a Harvest Festival Service in the Church at 10.30am on Sunday September 27, and this will be followed by a Harvest Lunch at 12.30pm in the Parker Hall. Tickets for the Lunch are £6 for adults, Primary age children, £3. Tickets are available from the Post Office or Butchers, or from Barbara Thomas 01580 819330. We are hoping that many of the newcomers to the Village will come and join us for the lunch as the planned Welcome party has had to be postponed, and will not now take place until the New year.

FUTURE EVENTS: If you are planning events, especially those Christmas fund raisers, send me the details as soon as you have them, then I can tell everyone about your event well in advance so they can put the date in the diary, do not leave it till the week before the event. Also put the details of your events into the Events calendar on the village website to help avoid clashes of similar events on the same day.

PARISH COUNCIL: The next Parish Council meeting will be next Thursday September 17, the meeting will be preceded, at 7pm, by a presentation by Jim Stobart from Operation Crackdown. Jim will explain how Operation Crackdown works, how you can report anti-social driving and the connection between Operation Crackdown and Community Speedwatch, there will be the opportunity to get answers to any questions you may have. The monthly meeting will start as soon as possible after 7.30pm. If there are things that Council needs to make you aware of at any time they will be posted on the noticeboards at the Post Office and Parsonage Croft, information will also be put on the village website www.etchinghamvillage.co.uk, Facebook www.facebook.com/etchinghampc and Twitter https://twitter.com/etchinghampc

COMMUNITY SPEEDWATCH: New volunteers for the Etchingham group always welcome, not a difficult task and you can put in as much or little time as you want. The first step is to go to the Community Speedwatch website www.communityspeedwatch.co.ukwhere you can find out more about how Speedwatch works. You can then register your interest in joining the Etchingham group, make sure you select the Etchingham group because the Burwash and Hurst Green groups both have Etchingham in the title. After you have completed the registration process, and a short online instruction session covering procedures and safety, your details will be passed to the Etchingham co-ordinator, you will then be contacted, the online Speedwatch system will be explained to you and you will be able to take part in roadside sessions. We currently have seven volunteers, if there were more available more sessions could be run and each volunteer would be asked to do sessions less often.

EVENTS CALENDAR: There is a calendar on the village website for residents and organisations to enter details of forthcoming events, this helps organisers check if an event has already been planned for a date they have chosen, and act as advertising for all village events. The idea of the calendar is for village residents and organisations to add details to the calendar themselves to reduce the workload of website admin.

To view or add to the calendar start on this page and follow the instructions www.etchinghamvillage.co.uk/calendar you will need a password to complete your entry, this is just a safeguard against the calendar getting filled up with spam posts. The password is the same for everyone if you do not have it ask me to supply it or ask someone who has already added to the calendar.

If everyone gets into the habit of adding their events to the calendar it will hopefully avoid too many clashes of events and people having to decide which event they will support. If you have any problems adding to the calendar contact me at etchinghamvillagewebsite@gmail.com and I will get it added, but I do not want to have to add every event to the calendar.

INFORMATION: If you have given me details of your event to put in this column, please remember to send me some details after the event so I can let your supporters know how successful the event was, how much you raised, interesting facts etc. Your supporters will be interested to know how you did. Get information for this column to me as soon as possible, if you have a diary of events planned for the year let me have the dates and I will put in a list of village events for the year so that people can put the dates in their diaries. There are several ways to get your info to me, but email is preferred because there is less chance of errors during copying. I need information by 10pm on Monday to be sure it will be in time for inclusion, I can sometimes add extra items on Tuesday morning, but this cannot be guaranteed. Just a little reminder, I get plenty of information about events that are taking place, but I get very little follow up information, after your event try and remember to send me brief account of how successful your event was, it can be as simple as a thank you to those that attended and how much money was raised etc. You can deliver to 2 Park Farm Close, telephone 01580 819532 or 07941 786244 or email colin.boylett@gmail.com .
