Anyone travelling along the “Straight Mile” road between Burwash and Etchingham cannot have failed to notice the striking new buildings which have emerged over the past 12 months.
These are the brand new Etchingham Church of England Primary School and the new Village Halls for Etchingham, now to be known as the Ahrens Hall and the Parker Hall.
Built with the assistance of ESCC, the Parish Council, Rother District Council and through the fund raising activities of Etchingham Trust for Sports and Recreation, the village now boasts 2 of the best equipped village halls in the South East of England.
During the daytime, the light and airy Parker Hall ( the smaller of the 2 halls at 10x8 metres) is available for the full range of community activities and external hire.
Outside of school hours, the larger Ahrens Hall (18x10 metres with a height of 8metres) becomes available, and together with the Parker Hall can be used in the evenings and at weekends.
In the summer months, the attractive terrace and Village Square which form part of the development will also come to life as use is made of this outstanding location.
Equipped with a kitchen, wifi and many up to date features, the halls offer a splendid venue for events from Yoga, adult learning, local community groups right through to personal and commercial letting.
The great new facilities have seen a resurgence in sport within the village.
The netball club is taking full advantage of the excellent new court within the Ahrens Hall and a new badminton club is to be formed to meet the interest expressed by a good number of Etchingham residents.
Local residents benefit from reduced hire rates and already bookings are being taken for clubs, private parties and a range of hobby and pastime groups.
