• There was a full village hall on Saturday evening for everyone to say goodbye to Greg and Viola Zak who are handing over the running of the shop and post office as they are returning to their native Poland, following the death of their beloved daughter Kia, brutally murdered in Poland last summer.

The Zaks have run the village shop and post office with great efficiency and smiles and it has always been well stocked with a variety of foods, stationery, newspapers and household goods – in fact, a mini-market – which has proved a popular venue for local residents. They will be sorely missed. District councillor Tony Ganly made a short speech to thank them for all they had done and Greg, although hesitant about speaking, said they had both appreciated the love and support of the community.

The buffet was immense as so many had contributed to the evening and a champagne toast was given wishing them well in the next chapter of their lives.
