Extra camera for Willowhale

An extra CCTV camera is to be installed at the Willowhale community campus in Rose Green.

The fifth camera was unanimously approved by Aldwick parish councillors to further clamp down on anti social behaviour in the area.

The council members agreed to spend 1,215 on the addition to the existing network which was put in around May 2004.

It covers the parish council offices, Willowhale Library, Willowhale Community Centre and Grove House Doctors' Surgery at the site off Pryors Lane.

Council chairman Dr Jim Ramage said the additional camera was a worthwhile investment.

'Having an extra camera will do nothing but good,' he stated.

'When the existing cameras were put in, we noticed a distinct reduction in trouble on this spot.

'There may not have been many prosecutions as a result of the cameras but they certainly make this a less attractive area for trouble makers than before.'

Cllr Brian Dodd said the need existed to ensure the millennium garden on the campus was properly covered by CCTV.

'There's a problem in the millennium garden,' he explained. 'It's the one spot that is not covered.

'There have been youths gathering there climbing on the pergola and messing about.'

He also alleged drug dealing was taking place in the area.

The new camera was likely to cover the surgery. The surgery's camera could be adjusted to focus on the garden.

The recordings from the cameras are transferred to the library where they can be monitored and kept.
