Fairlight Hall's new lecture series

Charles’s subject is ‘No dig for abundant crops and less weeding’. He has been growing no dig, organic vegetables since 1983, and by the end of the decade his market garden covered 11 acres. Now he crops intensively from just a quarter acre, growing year-round salad leaves and vegetables for local shops and restaurants. There are experiments too, comparing plant growth on dug and undug beds, and beds with different composts.

Tickets cost £40 and include talk, a guided tour of the gardens by head gardener Whitney Hedges, a two course lunch and time to talk informally to Charles and Whitney. During the visit you will have the opportunity to buy produce as well estate-grown plants, gifts and gardening tools and equipment.

Every ticket sold contributes to supporting Fairlight Hall’s WRAGS scheme encouraging people back to work by gaining valuable hands on experience in the gardens leading to further professional training or employment within the horticultural world. This year’s series of talks not only includes gardeners but writers on food, art and life. The talks run from April through to November.
