Firefighters tackle train fire at Battle station

Firefighters were called to tackle a fire which broken out underneath a train.

Crews from Battle and Bexhill were called shortly after 9.20pm on Sunday (December 6) following reports a two-carriage train was alight at Battle Railway Station.

No one was injured in the incident.

Crew manager Justin Goodchild, from Battle Fire Station, explained: “It was not a passenger train, it was an engineering train.”

He added: “We were on the scene for just under two hours.”

It is believed that an electrical fault was responsible for the fire.
