Flood alert issued for River Tillingham and Brede

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the River Tillingham this afternoon (Sunday, January 3).

The alert, which was issued shortly after 3pm, covers the River Tillingham and its tributaries, from Beckley Furnace to Rye, including the Tilling Green Estate to the railway line and the River Brede and its tributaries from Sedlescombe Bridge to Rye, including Winchelsea.

The Environment Agency said: “River levels are currently responding to the persistent rainfall today. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue until 6pm.

“River levels are expected to rise further and peak overnight. Flooding of low lying land is expected through until Monday morning.

“Flooding of properties is not currently expected but we will be monitoring the situation closely.”
