FLOODING UPDATE: Work continues in Littlehampton to pump away flood water

Access into the affected area of South Terrace is remains sealed off while private contractors, armed with specialist pumping equipment, continue their efforts to clear the street.

Sections of sewerage piping in the street has been excavated to allow contractors to lower the still-high water levels.

About 30 basement flats in the road were hit by yesterday’s freak flooding, which saw water levels in some homes rise to around 4ft.

Many of those living in the affected flats are still thought to be either staying with nearby friends and relatives, or in temporary accommodation set arranged by Arun District Council.

Work is expected to continue throughout the day.
