Future looks bright for Walberton Care Home after deal struck

STAFF at a Walberton care home say a takeover of their property has removed a dark cloud hanging over them.

The future of Walberton Care Home has finally been secured after a North East-based company took over its management from the troubled Southern Cross group earlier this month.

Management at the home, which provides nursing care, say the uncertainty had been worrying its 50 staff and residents for months.

But they are relieved to know the future looks bright under Teeside-based firm, Prestige Group, which owns and operates care homes mainly in the north east.

Care home manager Roma Wood said: “There was a great deal of uncertainty hanging over the care home, like a big dark cloud, and was causing some unrest among residents and our staff.

“But the takeover has removed all of that and now we’re looking forward to working with the Prestige Group.

“They want to improve standards here, which is music to our ears, and add to what is already a fine reputation as one of the best care homes in the region.”

Prestige Group chairman Raj Singh has decided to expand the care operations side of his business by taking charge of Walberton as well as two other former Southern Cross care centres in the north east.

“As a company, we’ve decided to take over the management of the homes to protect jobs and also to safeguard the future of residents as well as enhance the group’s care operations.

“We have more than 20 years experience in the care industry.

“We’re now looking to build our portfolio of care homes and, rather than drop standards, look to improve them.”

The Walberton home, in Yapton Lane, aims to help older people to continue living independent and active lives as part of a small, like-minded community while they benefit from the care and support of an experienced and dedicated team of nursing and care staff.
