Cyclists of all ages are being urged to get on their bikes for local good causes at this year’s upcoming On Yer Bike challenge.
St. Leonards on Sea Rotary club launched it’s annual event at St. Michael’s Hospice last week. The event is also known as the Castle Cycle Challenge.
The popular fund raiser, now in its 28th year, takes place on Sunday April 24.
Starting and finishing at the RNLI Lifeboat Station, at Hastings. Cyclists have the choice of a 25-mile route to Pevensey Castle and return, or can tackle the more strenuous 40 mile route which proceeds from Pevensey Castle to Herstmonceux Castle and returns along the Rickney Marsh road.
Entry Donations are £12 (minimum) for adults and £5 for under 16’s. Entry on the day is £15 for Adults and £6 for under 16’s. The event starts at the Lifeboat Station at 8.30am.
Last year some 600 cyclists took part and raised over £11,000 for charity. On Yer Bike has raised more than £250,000 for charity and local good causes in the town since it was first launched.
The beneficiaries were St. Michael’s Hospice, Hastings RNLI and other local charities.
There are prizes for the adult and under 16 raising the most sponsorship money, and the team raising the most money receives the Team Cup.
There is also a draw for a new bicycle, sponsored by Deeks Evans, made from all those who pay in sponsorship money on the payment slip enclosed with the registration forms.
In 2013 Rotary launched rides for children up to seven from the Lifeboat Station to the pier and back, a distance of 1.6 miles, and for youngsters aged up to 11 to Azur, Marina Pavilion and back, which is three miles long.
The Rotary Club of St.Leonards has supported a variety of local community projects and charities since it was first chartered in 1963.
