Goodbye to potholes in Bognor

Motorists on two important roads in Bognor Regis will be saying goodbye to potholes.

Longford Road and Canada Grove are to benefit from permanent repairs to rid them of their current pock-marked and rutted surface.

They are used by thousands of motorists daily and form one of

the major routes in and out of the town centre.

They are due to undergo the work in mid-summer, though an exact date has yet to be decided.

Both roads are being targeted by West Sussex County Council highways officers, led by Tracy Webb, among a 15m county-wide programme as they get to grips with the poor state of some of the town's roads.

Other roads pencilled in to give motorists a smoother ride are Upper Bognor Road, Hillsboro Road and Marshall Avenue.

Those who use Aldwick Road have begun to benefit from the more enjoyable experience after its bumpy stretch between the Upper Bognor Road and Gossamer Lane roundabouts was resurfaced this week.

Next on the list are Halnaker Gardens and Tangmere Gardens in Aldwick next month.

Markfield in North Bersted will follow in July.

A county council spokeswoman said: "This is not a definitive list as other sites are being added subject to budget."

Roads already resurfaced are St Winifred's Close (Bognor), Aldwick Street (Aldwick) and The Parade (Pagham).

Slindon Road and Arundel Road at Fontwell, and Annandale Avenue in Bognor and North Bersted's Central Avenue have seen their potholes patched.

Surface dressing has also been applied to the two Fontwell roads, while Greenwood Avenue in Bognor was one of the first in the area to be given a micro-asphalt surface.
