Hairy Sean sheds all for two good causes

THE white-covered couch had unnerving similarities with an operating table.

Beautician Debbie Cole stood poised with her equipment.

Sean Langford, his impressively hairy chest, arms and legs exposed, lay back and, watched by wife Tracey and friends, waited.

R-i-p'¦.!

The first of the evening's many strips tore a bald patch diagonally across his door-mat stomach.

Sean's long-held ambition to use his ample body hair to the advantage of deserving causes was coming to fruition.

The scene was the Daleik hair salon in Devonshire Road on Tuesday evening. Sean and Tracey, of Clinch Green Avenue, had brought their little goddaughters along to watch the fun.

Sean was raising money for two good causes, the Breast Cancer Campaign and the Sussex Air Ambulance.

Daleik boss Phil Carpenter had wine and nibbles on hand. Sean, a kiln operator for a potter specialising in hand-made tiles, already had sponsorship from his boss and money from pre-sold "rip a strip" vouchers.

It was party time.

Before long bald patches were spreading over Sean's prostrate body and the laughter was building with every strip that was ripped.

Before the follicle deforestation began Sean had explained: "We have been talking about it for years. It was just something I thought I could do and one day I said to Phil 'Can we organise it?'

"We have a professional, Debbie, on hand to tell people how to do it."

Why Breast Cancer and the Air Ambulance?

Tracey said: "Everyone's doing Children In Need."

Sean said: "We thought we would do something different. They are both very worthwhile charities doing a terrific job.

"We are just hoping for a good crowd. We don't how it is going to go. I am probably going to end up like a patchwork quilt'¦.!"
