Help needed to keep Littlehampton Bonfire Night alive

LITTLEHAMPTON Bonfire Night organisers need some help to keep the traditional alive.

The bonfire society has issued a double appeal, asking for a caravan, and a venue to make and store torches.

Secretary Richard Cooper said: “We currently need to replace our caravan, which is used by members who guard the bonfire during the week preceding our event, and until the remains of the fire are doused by the fire service.

“We would like to hear from anyone who has a second-hand caravan either for sale at a reasonable price or, better still, that they are willing to donate to the society.”

He added the site normally rented as storage, for torches, road signs and other equipment, as well as to make the torches in the weeks leading up the event, would not be available to the society for much longer.

“Without suitable storage facilities we will be unable to continue to stage Bonfire Night and so we are very anxious to find alternative facilities as soon as possible,” said Richard.

“The total site area we require is approximately 40ft by 20ft. Access to the site for a lorry will be required to load up the torches for the celebrations.

“At present, we pay only a nominal rent for our current facilities and, unfortunately, we would not be able to afford a commercial rent.”
