PROMS IN THE PINETUM: This is the opening event of the Hailsham Festival and takes place on Thursday September 8 at 7.30pm at Limecross Nursery. An open air concert featuring all your prom favourites including Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia and Jerusalem with the Wealden Brass Band and the Pete Willson Quartet. WELL-BEING: Tomorrow, Saturday, between 10am and 6pm there is a day incorporating the five elements at Lime Cross Nursery including yoga, meditation and relaxation by the lakeside and in ancient woodlands, tai chi and wild swimming. Pop in and book or go to their website.

TEDDY BEARS PICNIC: This event, organised by Herstmonceux Messy Church, will be held at All Saints’ Church on Sunday from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. Come and Share and Bring Your Bear. For further details contact Pam on 833079.

VITALITY VILLAGES: A visit is being arranged to the Giants of Brede, the steam pumping engines and Water Heritage Collections on Saturday September 3. What will you see? Firstly, a 410hp triple expansion steam pumping engine build by Tangyes of Birmingham in 1904 and restored to original colours for it centenary. Secondly, another engine to a more modern design installed in 1940. Numbered 5059, the last of its type supplied by Worthington Simpson of Newark and its 420hp is capable of pumping 3.5 million gallons per day against a lift of 515ft. Thirdly, a range of water artefacts from an earlier collection kept by Folkestone and Dover Water Services is displayed in the old boiler house. All engines are currently being run by compressed air but will in due course be operated by steam. This is an opportunity for people of all ages to study the skills of earlier years, in the Grade II tall brick engine houses displaying striking architectural features in the Baroque and Art Deco styles of the 1900s and 1930s. Please note there is no wheel chair access to toilets; toilets will need the ability to climb 8 steps to toilets. Refreshments, sales and souvenir items are available and admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Travel is by car sharing, so where possible when you book would you be kind enough to state whether or not you require a lift, or how many seats you have available for guests. WALKING GROUP: On Sunday meet Helen (845684) at 10am at Hailsham Leisure Centre for a walk in Clayton of 4 miles which takes in the Jack and Jill windmills. There is another walk on Tuesday with Mary Ann (833749) meeting at 6.30pm at Herstmonceux Church of 3 to 4 miles. If you would like to join them on either walk, please ring the walk leaders to let them know you are coming along.
