Highest honours for Bognor Rotary duo

Two members of Bognor Regis Rotary Club have received its highest award.

Peter Stemp and Mike Fildes were each awarded Paul Harris Fellowships.

The presentations were made at a recent club meeting by its president, Chris Martin, in the presence of members of the French twinning club from Challans/Saint Jean de Monts.

A Paul Harris Fellowship recognises the significant achievement in a community of a Rotarian. Mr Harris was the founder of the Rotary movement.

Very few members gain the award in his name.

In making the awards, Mr Martin said he could not think of two more suitable people to receive the fellowships.

Mr Stemp has for many years been a driving force behind the annual successful sports night where Bognor Regis Rotary Club organises a boxing evening for the benefit of the town's boxing club. Thousands of pounds have been raised at these events to ensure the boxing club's ongoing success and benefit other charities.

Mr Fildes, a local businessman, is the Rotarians' current vocational chairman. He has been the organiser of outings for the Bognor area's senior citizens. He also organises the participation of many disabled sportsmen and women at the regional Rotary competition held in Crawley each year.
