From 11am to 4pm, on Friday September 28, Care UK’s Skylark House on St Marks Lane is taking part in the world’s biggest coffee morning and hopes local people will join them in supporting the millions of people facing cancer in the UK.

Residents and visitors will be able to enjoy a relaxing morning sharing a cuppa with friends, along with a tempting selection of homemade cakes and treats – all of which will be available for a small donation to Macmillan.

Home manager, Devendra Lallchand, explained why Skylark House is taking part in the Macmillan coffee morning. He said: “Many of the people who live or work at this home have been affected by cancer, either themselves or in a loved one so we really wanted to do our bit to help mark the day and raise some much-needed funds.”

Every year Macmillan organises the world’s biggest coffee morning in kitchens, offices and village halls across the globe to fundraise for people living with cancer.

Since the very first coffee morning in 1990, more than £200 million has been raised for the charity, enabling it to support individuals from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond.

He added: “Organising this event for the world’s biggest coffee morning allows us to not only raise money for this very worthwhile charity but also to show our support for the work the Macmillan nurses do in our community.

“A coffee morning is also the perfect excuse to invite local people, family and friends to join us and a catch up on local news while raising funds to support the vital services provided by Macmillan.

“We’ve enjoyed planning the event and hope to see lots of people from the community here on the day.”
