Horsham youngsters compete in junior cycling races

With the weather on its best behaviour there probably would have been no other car park in the country witnessing such excitement and endeavour on that particular Sunday afternoon.

Horsham Youth Cycling Club and Horsham District Council combined in partnership to organise the event, which this year was the third year it has taken place, and particular thanks were extended to volunteers Dee and Steve Nash for their sterling officiating efforts.

The youngsters were competing in three different age categories - under eights, under tens and under 12s – and they really pulled out the stops to provide some great races.

All the riders tried their hardest and gave full concentration, while being cheered on by around 50 parents, coaches and organisers who created an excellent and fair spirited atmosphere.

The under eight and ten age groups were dominated by two youngsters - George Harvey and Ferdie Parsons respectively - who came from the Brighton based VC Jubilee club.

Sue Rogers (Con, Steyning), HDC’s cabinet member for a safer and healthier district, said: “Well done to all involved for putting on this great event in the town.

“It’s more important than ever to keep active and it’s great to see so many young people took part in the competition.”

Horsham Youth Cycling Club is an initiative that Horsham District Council started up and continues to closely support.

The club attempts to provide a wide range of cycling opportunities - skills, ramps, bikeability, competitions, mountain bike riding etc - for youngsters aged six to 14 years.
