Hospice appeal on track but still needs you!

Latest figures released by St Michael's Hospice shows the Phoenix Appeal is well on the way to reaching its £1m target and urges local residents and businesses to continue with its fantastic fundraising efforts to give the appeal one final boost.

To date the Phoenix Appeal, launched after a fire destroyed much of the hospice’s main building last summer, has raised a spectacular £875,000. A figure achieved thanks to donations and the efforts of many local business and residents who have pulled out all the stops to raise money to help rebuild this much loved hospice which offers care and support at a time of need to residents of Hastings and Rother. Included in the latest Phoenix Appeal figures is a cash grant from national charity CRASH of £30,000.

CRASH supports the homeless and assists organisations such as hospice’s with free of charge building advice, sourcing of building materials, technical knowledge and cash grants.

Bruni Lovet, Head of Marketing at St Michael’s Hospice thanked CRASH for its donation and for all its help and related support and advice, throughout the rebuild of the Hospice. “CRASH have been extremely generous awarding St Michael’s Hospice with a cash grant of £30,000,” she said. “CRASH Trustee Steve Hodkinson of Scotch Partners and Patron Dulux Trade added significant value to this grant by sharing their professional expertise.

“Patrons Hilti (Great Britain) Ltd, British Gypsum and ACO Technologies pledged their support by offering to donate materials along with vital technical expertise.”

In addition Bruni says Dulux have created three complementary bedroom schemes for the In-Patient Unit to give rooms their own identity.

“The scattered nature and mix of rooms equates to creating a homely environment,” she said.

“The In-Patient rooms feature a collection of colours which reflect warmth and comfort and are gender neutral, designed to complement the previously pre-selected finishes including patient chair and floor coverings.

“The environment around us often supports how we feel, therefore getting the Hospice environment right is paramount when the patients and people the Hospice support are either ill or on an emotional journey.

“When the Dulux team created the colour schemes for the treatment, counselling, family and nurses rooms this was taken into account, and as a result a beautiful, calming scheme has been created. For the corridors and breakout areas a colour story has been created to offer combinations which works with the equality act while not comprising the effect and functional design. These stunning colour schemes have been approved by the clinical team.”

Bruni says St Michael’s Hospice is grateful to everyone who has supported and who continues to support the Phoenix Appeal. “So many people throughout Hastings and Rother and further afield, have gone that extra mile and done something truly extraordinary this year to support our largest ever capital appeal, ‘The Phoenix Appeal’.

“We’ve still got a way to go, but with the continued support of the wonderful residents and businesses of Hastings and Rother we are confident we will meet our target to ensure our Hospice is fit for the future.”
