Hide AdLocal knowledge is key. Clearly, residents know the problems and their views should be heeded, as evidenced in the Hassocks Neighbourhood Plan.
Apart from objecting on grounds of increased traffic, air pollution, inappropriate development in a flood-prone area, all contributing to climate change, as a sustainable transport supporter I proposed using 1) Transport for New Homes’ check-list for development around public transport (not cars), 2) CPRE’s report The Right Homes in the Right Places, 3) Wildlife Trust’s State of Nature reports showing rapid decline of wildlife, and 4) meeting government clean air and climate change targets.
Change is urgently needed before Hassocks submerges under gridlock.
Implementing sustainable transport measures with development would ensure better health and well-being, along with economic and environmental benefits and potential savings in lives and the NHS.
