Hurst Green village voice

At the Council meeting held on 31 July, as always the last Tuesday in the month to which everyone is invited, Bob Janes gave a positive review of the position of the new shop complex.

A seventy page report has been produced which will anable a new cash flow from the lottery. Groups hoping to use the premises have been named plus modifications for its use. Much more information should be published in the parish magazine in due course.

New equipment is to be installed at the playground. It was suggested by Cllr. Browne, Chairman, that a public village meeting be held to decided what choices are to be made for the use of the children, from teenagers to the very young, in this regard.

It was decided, by vote, that a tall beacon be erected at Stage Field. It may be recalled that at the Jubilee Celebrations the beacon was at ground level following an objection to a pole. That has now been overcome.

Street lighting was discussed at length with special regard to costs and in collaboration with East Sussex C.C.

A letter was then read by the Chairman about the Jubilee celebrations which had received wide spread admiration.

A Packenham’s XI visited Drewett’s Field for the weekly fixture on Sunday which lost to Hurst Green by 9 runs.

There were some excellent shots, especially from Guy Ballard who scored 73.Good fielding from both sides gave the match that extra feature of interest.Rob Yardley scored 46. Of the bowlers David Baldock took 4 for 19 and Don Cox 3 for 20.

Mext match Hastings Wanders will wander along to Hurst Green. Why not wander down to the field for an hour or so and see how well Hurst Green play - not to mention some fine play from our opponents.

The Aviation museum is holding an Open Day on August 12 10.30 till 5 pm.

Sale of Bric-a bac, raffle, refreshments. WWl and WW2 displays. Much of interest to see. Free parking and admission but donations welcome please.

Friendship Club meets on Black bin Day at 2pm Mobile Library calls at the Village Hall alternate Fridays in the afternoon.

Church services are at St. Mary’s church Salehurst at 11am also a short Communion in the Church Room, Fair Lane. Robertsbridge at 9am. Etchingham is at 10.30 am.

Short Mat Bowling and Choir are held Monday evenings with the former at the Village Hall at 7pm and the latter at the School at 8pm.
