GREETINGS: May I wish everyone a Happy Easter and a lovely weekend. With the extra light hours in the evenings it should be possible to be out and about more. Funny how we seem to complain about this ridiculous business of changing the clocks twice a year, and yet we adapt really quickly.

CHURCH SERVICES: This weekend is the most important in the Church calendar. We are a Resurrection church. and upon that fact hangs the belief of the church. The services are as follows; today, Good Friday, there is a Devotional Service at 2 pm; on Holy Saturday there will be a Service of Light and Blessing of the Easter Garden at 6 pm; on Easter Sunday there will be a Parish Eucharist at 10.30 am. The Easter Lilies will be on display with a list of those remembered, which will remain for all of the next week. The church is always open and it is well worth finding a few minutes to visit and enjoy the beauty of both the church and the flowers.

WEATHER: Traditionally, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. The lion did a fair amount of roaring last week end and caused quite a lot of damage to trees and gas work fences. Now we are going to have the April showers, hopefully leading us to yet more flowers. From my sitting room window, I am able to watch the “murmuration of starlings” as they swoop and dive in great flocks, over the tops of some trees. Those said trees are now all showing that lovely spring green foliage. Are they willows?

EASTER CRAFT FAIR: On Easter Saturday, tomorrow, there will be a Craft Fair in the Memorial Hall from 10 am to 2.30 pm. There is a great line up for Easter including pottery, furniture, preserves, novelty chalk boards, Flanimals, cushions and lots and lots more. There will be an Easter Egg Tombola, proceeds from which will go towards the New Pavilion Fund. Refreshments will be available. There is sure to be something for everyone.

FIVE VILLAGES: The Girls at Five Villages House held a most successful Coffee Morning last week. They raised over £400 for St. Michael’s Hospice. This was a fantastic effort, considering that only a few people from the village popped in. Margaret Bumstead and Pat Baker would like to thank Derek Baker for supplying a lot of delicious cakes, and Barbara Southerden for helping with the raffle, and anyone else who helped in any way. A brilliant effort, well done.

ROBIN HOOD BONFIRE SOCIETY: If you read this reminder early in the morning, you will have plenty of time to go to the Easter Egg Hunt Extravaganza, which is happening from 11 am to 2 pm on Good Friday, that’s TODAY. It is a £2 entry with a guaranteed egg for every entrant. Come along and enjoy Face Painting, Balloon Modelling from Pendragon Parties, Tombola and name the Bunny competition. Food and drink are available from the Robin Hood. All proceeds are going to local good causes.

THE ROYAL OAK, PETT: On Easter Monday there will be live music with Logan Wilson and Simon Shaw from 5 - 7 pm. The next music will be on Wednesday 8th April, when Irish Session will play at 8.30 pm.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music on Sunday 5th April will be John Paul Miller playing Covers.

SCHOOL NEWS: The last week of term was very busy and there were some lovely opportunities for the school and community to come together. The Creative Arts Project performance with Ed Boxall was especially fantastic. Several children achieved their Silver Awards, and sheets have been sent out Going for Gold for families to complete. Sports awards have been presented to Amelie Reddin-Stokes, Cameron Luff, Billy Cooke and Raven Bicat. Well done all of you. Tea at the Ritz raised £209 towards the Yr6 leavers’ treat. It is hoped to open the lunch time gardening club next term, and need a bit of help is needed to clear and prepare the garden area. If anyone has any free time during the first week back at school, and would like to help, please let Mrs. Haddock know. The children return to school for term 5 on 13th April.

CONTACT: If you would like me to include any news items, reports or announcements in this column, please let me know by Sunday evening. My phone number is 01424 815 247 or pop round. I do have an email address if you ask me for it.
