CHURCH NEWS: The 9.30am Eucharistic service will be led by the Vicar, Rev. Jonathan Meyer. It will be Harvest Festival, so the church will be beautifully decorated. The Harvest Supper will take place the evening before, on Saturday at 7 for 7.30 pm. Tickets are £7 available from Janet Pegg on 814 735. This week we commemorate George Kennedy Bell, Bishop of Chichester 1958, and Francis of Assisi 1226. Winchelsea Church is holding a harvest Flower Festival on Friday, Saturday, 5, 6 October open from 10 am to 4 pm, and Sunday 7 October open from 12 – 4pm. Coffee, tea and light lunches will be available each day.

WEATHER: Cooler, bright and sunny today, with the temperatures dropping most noticeably once the sun goes down. I really do not look forward to the clock change.

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: What a lovely day we had for our Autumn Flower Show, plenty of sunshine and nice and warm. The hall looked wonderful with some amazing dahlias and work done by the children of Icklesham School, especially Panther Class, who made fruit and vegetables out of material and also showed their sewing skills. In fact, they were so good that they won the Best in Show. Well done to them. Congratulations to all trophy winners : Brian Puxty for the John Austin trophy for the most points in the fruit and vegetable classes; Stuart Baker, for most points in the flower section; Wendy Mitchell for the best dessert and she also won the best in the cookery section for this. It was a mouth- watering looking cheese cake; Judy Foster won the Kath Harman Salver for most points in the show, and also the shield for the member with the most points over three shows who does not live in the village. Panther Class won the Phoebe Merricks trophy for best in show. The child with the most points was Sophie Thomson, and Church House won the Interchallenge Cup. Thank you to Michael and Stuart for getting the hall ready on Friday afternoon, and Kim and Mags for preparing teas, Judy for running the tombola, Helen and Tia for running the raffle, everyone who donated prizes and helped to tidy away after the show. Also thanks to Kate and Syd from Manor Farm Oast for sponsoring the best dessert, and the Robin Hood for sponsoring the medals for the children’s section. Finally, the society was very sad to hear that Barbara Harman has died. She was a very loyal supporter of the flower shows, going round with the cookery judge for over twenty years and also running the raffles for us. We will miss her very much at the shows. Don’t forget the AGM on Friday 26th October with a 7pm start.

CRAFT FARE: There is a Craft Fair next Saturday 6th October from 10 am to 2.30 pm in the Memorial Hall. Plenty of lovely crafts with some gift ideas for Christmas. Refreshments will be served as usual. There is plenty of free parking. Everyone is welcome. It is a nice place to meet over coffee or tea.

RDDAA: That stands for Rye and District Dementia Action Alliance. The next fund raising event will be on Friday 19th October. We have planned a lovely music and supper evening which will take place in Rye’s Tilling Green Community Centre, TN31 7BE. Music will be supplied by The Fieldstone Boys who are a local skiffle band and the food will be bacon butties and beans followed by home- made apple pie and custard. All this for £7.50 a head.
