Sunday 20 July All Saints with St Nicolas 10.30 Family Communion and the Baptism of Fraser Cruttenden. Fraser Joseph is the son of James Robert Cruttenden (son of Jim and Sheelah) and Julia Ann(daughter of Ken and Julie Hesmer) of Pear Tree Field. The Godparents are Shane Barnard,Caroline Hesmer,Hazel Jabbitt and Chloe Hesmer.

Our large Diocese of Chichester is divided into 2 areas each with an area Bishop. Icklesham is under the Bishop of Lewes. Horsham covers the western half of the diocese. The Archdeacon is the Bishop’s right hand “man”, The next Archdeacon of Horsham is Canon Fiona Windsor. She’s not a royal but is the sister-in-law of our Church Treasurer Marilyn Shone. Canon Fiona has 2 grown up children and is a Grandmother. She has been a Parish priest and ATpresent is the Bishop of Ely’s adviser on women’s ministry.

Monday 7 July. Icklesham Casuals Charity Golf Challenge - Raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and the New Icklesham Pavilion Fund. In one day and using only 5 clubs to play 36 holes 0n 9 different course in 9 different counties. An early start for the 9 competitors - Bob Baker,Chris Baker,Steve Beale,Bill Beaumont, Ollie Beaumont,Tony Forster, Tim Linch,David Mayne and Hugh Sullivan - in order to be at the first hole on the first course at Slinfold near Horsham for a 5am tee-off. After 4 holes it was on to courses at Chiddingfold,Surrey, Southwood near Farnborough, Hampshire, Datchet in Berkshire, Richings Park, Iver in Buckinghamshire, Stockley Pines,Uxbridge in the old county of Middlesex, the Nine of Herts, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, Mardyke Valley, SoUth Ockenden,Essex and despite a few traffic delays the Weald of Kent course in Headcorn. There the final putt was holed just after 9pm to complete a long, tiring but successful day. The co-operation of all the courses was greatly appreciated and enabled the challenge to take place.

The Club would like to give a massive thank you to everyone who gave support by sponsorship including Viking Insurance Services, Stuart Baker, Terry Gilbert,Dave Harding,Nicky Harris, Mike Hills,Beryl Holder, Corinne Merricks,Kate and Syd Mylrea of Manor Farm Oast, Ann Rachlin, Brian Sokell,Pete and Sandra Stunt,Keith Swallow,Kevin Wall and Nick Warren.

An initial calculation puts the amount raised around £1800.. The Club is trying to increase this to above £2000 so a further £1000 in matched sponsorship can be claimed for Macmillan Cancer Support. Training for the new season is underway on Wednesdays on the Recreation Ground at 6.30pm. The Club is aiming to have a second team in the East Sussex League Division Six. Any one interested in playing contact Bob or David.

Friday 11 July I was in the audience for”Smile Boys - That’s The Style”. The Memorial Hall was full of poppies and photographs commemorating that grim time. Yet the choice of readings,poetry,music and short scenes was so w ell balanced that we could empathise with the range of emotions which the “Great “ War produced . The talented cast developed the enthusiastic audience. The second half jollity of the Music Hall was a good contrast. It would be wrong to mention one name. Congratulations to the Icklesham Players and the Acting up in Rye for a first class show. If you missed it. there are performances tonight and tomorrow in the Rye Community Centre.

The quality of our local show was emphasized the next day when we were disappointed by a professional company in Richmond Theatre . There were no programmes, the prices of tickets and refreshments were exorbitant .t he actors mumbled and so the vital words of Dylan Thomas were wasted.

Tuesday 29 July. Rother Responders have 2 free training sessions showing how to save a life using a PAD - A Public Access Defibrillator. The Robin Hood is the venue with sessions at7pm and 8pm. The Pub already has a PAD available for emergencies. There are many instances of heart attack victims being saved by this immediate help.

Saturday 2 August Icklesham Fete and Flower Show. Attractions being booked. The latest is Archery. Flower Show entries in by 30 July. More details next week.
