A man has been charged with two counts of assault.

Matthew John Jerrey, 40, of Goldhurst Green, Icklesham, appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 7 where he pleaded not guilty.

He has been remanded in custody to next appear in court for a bail hearing on Monday (July 13).

The charges relate to two alleged assaults, the first being on Saturday (July 4) in Jempson’s car park, near to Ferry Road, Rye, just after midnight and the second on Sunday (July 5) in The Salts, Rye, between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.

PC Jane Donnelly said: “We would like anyone who witnessed the incidents to contact us.

“We would particularly like to speak to a couple who intervened in the car park and four men, aged late teens to early 20s, who intervened in The Salts.”

Any witness or anyone with information about the incident is asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting serial 854 of 05/07. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
