Jobs in Northiam as Jempsons gets set to open store

A NEW store in Northiam will provide more jobs for local people says supermarket company Jempsons.

The family owned supermarket owners will open the 1,500sq ft store at the former J&J Carpets building in the heart of the village on March 20.

The store will be open Monday to Saturday from 7am to 8pm and will offer local produce, Jempson’s fresh bread and cakes, free to use cash machine, National Lottery, as well as the village Post Office.

There will also be parking available in front of the store.

Andrew Jempson said: “Jempson’s have proudly been a part of the local community since 1935, our new store will continue the principles of the business.”

He continued: “The job vacancies will be filled by people living in and around Northiam, the popular Post Office has been relocated, the new store will also continue to support local producers and farmers, we will be an active part of the village community.”

Jempsons were due to hold a recruitment drive for jobs at the new store today (Friday) at Northiam Village Hall from 10am - 1pm.

A spokesperson said: “We have a number of vacancies available for the store and it’s a great opportunity for local residents to find either full or part-time employment.”

The recruitment morning is being held in conjunction with Rye Partnership and is combined with a Roadshow drop-in session for local people also interested in training opportunities, volunteering, further education and generally improving their employment prospects.

Information and advice will be available from the Jobcentre Plus rural advisors, National Careers Service, Sussex Coast College Hastings, Entertainment Workshops, Finding Futures, Rother Voluntary Action and The Rye Partnership. The rural employability project aims to promote local recruitment.
