Kids' handiwork bids all a bright welcome in South Bersted

A BRIGHT mosaic designed and created entirely by pupils now sits proudly in South Bersted School grounds.

The idea was thought up by four to 11-year-old students who are members of the school council. They asked their teachers if they could design and make something to decorate the entrance to the school.

"We researched the project and were delighted to see that Topps Tiles in Bognor Regis offered free materials for local schools and community groups to make mosaics," said Sandy Osman, the primary school's community co-ordinator.

The council members sketched their imaginative design which incorprates the school's rainbow logo and colours with the word 'welcome', and two members visited Topps Tiles in Bognor to discuss their plans and place the tile order.

Pupils cut the tiles to shape and stuck them onto a board with the help of a tiler before the completed mosaic was mounted on the wall within the playground area at the entrance to the school.

"The company were fantastic, very friendly and supportive. The mosaic was installed at the end of the summer term and provides a wonderful focal point for the school grounds.

"Pupils, parents and school visitors keep commenting at how professional and colourful the mosaic is, it is a real asset," added Mrs Osman.
