Ladies lose out at skittles

MANPOWER triumphed for the second year running when Rye and District Lions men’s team beat their lady members and wives in a close pub skittles match at the Kings Head, Udimore.

As last year, the match was closely fought over three rounds with the ladies leading by 13 points after two rounds. However, the men fought back in the third round and their final score was 218 points compared to the ladies’ score of 213.

The highest individual score of the evening was 24 by Carol Charlton. Three of the men had equally high scores of 23, Terry Cobby, John Redman and Conrad Freezer. The wooden spoon this year went to the Lions President Elect, Sue Clay, with 16 points.

Plans for the Annual Rye Raft Race and Fete are in hand and it takes place this year on Sunday August 25. Any pub, club, school, college, company or organisation wishing to enter a raft should contact Bob Harvey on 0845 833 2825.

Booking for stall spaces is already underway and anyone wishing to have a stall, ride or sideshow should contact Reg Emson on 01797 224174 as soon as possible as last year the Lions had to refuse some late applications as the site was fully booked.

Rye Lions have been joined by several new members recently and any adult in Rye or nearby villages interested in joining should contact Terry Cobby on 01797 252382.
