Littlehampton Arts Trail round-up

The Special Little Things Arts and Crafts Market, in Evans Garden, Arcade Road, Littlehampton, on Saturday included a painting demonstration by renowned artist Dan Carman, live music, arts and crafts stalls.

Three other artists – Sarah Johnson, Chelsea Smith and Staci Mendoza-~Quinn – were also creating live, and other local artists were exhibiting.

Staci Mendoza-Quinn, of LOCA (Littlehampton Organisation for Contemporary Arts), which ran the arts trail, said: “It was a very popular event and lots of children came along to enjoy it.

“There was live music, including tap dancer Lee Payne, who has performed with Diversity, and DJ Gary Gama.”

The most popular event of this year’s arts week was the Chalk on the Prom on Thursday.

“We had between 800 and 1,000 people along the prom, just enjoying creating and listening to the live music,” said Staci.

“We had marshals, as we always check in case someone puts in a naughty word. They checked everyone but there was not a single one!

“The children really loved it. It was the first day of the summer holidays, so it was a day that brought them together again with their families.

“Visitors joined in as well. It interfaces them with the local people, which is really lovely and the feel they are doing something in the community they are visiting.”

Donations of chalk made by local families will go to future projects.

Looking back over the week’s events, Staci added: “The Picnic on the Green was fantastic as well, with live music on the Stage on the Green. It was a really good event and liaises the artists’ community with the community they live in.”
