Speaking at the annual council meeting, Cllr Long said she was ‘truly honoured and privileged to be Littlehampton’s new mayor’ and vowed to ‘work hard for the community’.

Cllr Marian Ayres will become deputy mayor for the next 12 months and the new mayor-elect.

The mayor thanked Cllr Bowyer for her time in office, adding that she had been a ‘good mentor’.

Cllr Long is now focusing her fundraising efforts on local Scout groups, namely the 5th Littlehampton Air Scouts.

And she has hit the ground running with a series of fundraising activities already planned for the coming weeks, including a gardening project at Manor House, in Church Street.

Cllr Long, who is also chairman of the 5th Littlehampton Sea Scouts, will be joining the other two Scout groups to create a garden feature on land to the west side of the drive at the building.

Leading the project is the 4th Littlehampton Scouts, who have been looking to give something back to the community which has supported them over the years.

The garden will portray the spirit of adventure provided through the Scouting values.
