Local cubs have an amazingtime at Sussex wide event

The event celebrated the centenary of the Cub Scout section which started in 1916 to provide activities to boys who were too young to be Scouts.

One hundred years on, today’s boys and girls had the chance to try a range of new experiences – some adventurous and challenging, some educational and others pure fun.

These included a king sized climbing and abseil wall, an extra high aerial runway, archery and shooting, zorbing, pedal karts and handling exotic animals.

In the evenings the Cubs gathered for entertainments. Saturday saw a camp fire and Jungle Fever – an extravaganza of singing and dancing.

During the weekend the young people had been showing off their amazing abilities as entertainers and on Sunday evening was the final of “Cubs Got Talent”.

Hannah Kentish, the Scout Association’s UK Youth Commissioner visited the camp and told the Cubs that this was the best Cubs 100 she had visited so far in this centenary year.

Over 200 activities are offered to the half a million Scouts around the UK, made possible by the efforts of 100,000 voluntary adult leaders. This has helped make Scouting the largest co-educational youth movement in the country.

One of the challenges that the Scout Movement faces is finding more volunteers to plug the current gap. At present there are nearly 38,000 young people on waiting lists.
