Lottery money is set aside to improve children's play in Arun

A quarter-of-a-million pound boost for play across Arun has been announced.

The Big Play in Arun scheme has been awarded 256,294 from the Big Lottery Fund's children's play programme.

The project will transform local play provision to benefit 2,550 children and young people including those with physical, learning or behavourial disabilities.

The play opportunities will include summer holiday sessions, skate ramps and a kickabout area.

Play rangers will also be funded to provide supervision and guidance to help youngsters enjoy themselves safely.

Big Play in Arun has been launched by Arun District Council. Philippa Dart, its head of parks and greenspace, said the portfolio of projects funded by the grants would last for three years.

"They will really make a difference to children of all ages," she explained.

Big Lottery Fund head of south-east region Alison Rowe said she hoped the play provision being funded by the award would encourage parents to allow their children to enjoy the benefits of playing outdoors.
