The following are court results for the Observer area from Hastings Magistrates' Court from February 16 to February 18

February 16:

James Chapman (aged 32), of London Road, Battle, was convicted, at Maidstone, of stealing clothing worth £600 from Next in Maidstone on August 12 last year. He was also convicted of stealing bedding, worth £1,000, from Dunelm, Canterbury and items worth £600, from John Lewes, at Tunbridge Wells, on the same day, and stealing items worth £544 from TK Maxx, in Southampton on July25. The court made a community order with a requirement of 150 hours of unpaid work.

Robert Conlon (aged 24), of Willingdon Way, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to sending numerous electronic messages that were grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing nature. The offence took place in Hastings on January 20. The court made a community order and fined him £100.

Errol Gillett (aged 28), of Boscobel Road North, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman by beating. The offence took place in Hastings on January 18. He also pleaded guilty to causing £300 damage to a toilet belonging to Sussex Police on January 19 and a charge of harassment, between January 20 and February 6. The court made a community order and fined him £50. Magistrates also issued a restraining order.

Joshua Carley (aged 19), of Frymans Lane, Brede, was found guilty of driving a Seat car on Marley Lane, Battle, on July 25, without due care and attention. He was fined £200 and his driving record endorsed with five penalty points.

February 17:

Timothy McEwan (aged 65), of Dudley Road, Hastings, pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle on Battle Hill, Battle, on January 29 while over the drink drive limit. He gave a breath alcohol reading of 60 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35mg. He was fined £250 and banned from driving for one year.

John Mortimer (aged 56), of Farley Way, Peasmarsh, pleaded guilty to driving a Vauxhall car on Rye Hill, Rye, on January 31 while over the drink drive limit. He gave an alcohol breath reading of 75 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35mg. He was fined £200 and banned from driving for 18 months.

Lewis Hayward (aged 21), of Chatham, Kent, pleaded guilty to being in possession of a quantity of cannabis at Holliers Hill, Bexhill, on November 1 last year. He was fined £150.

Charlie Sanderson (aged 23), of Peartree Lane, Bexhill, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly at Robertson Street, Hastings, on January 31 and to assaulting a police officer. The court made a community order with an alcohol treatment requirement and ordered him to pay £100 compensation.

Leith Mohammed (aged 32), of Salisbury Road, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to stealing steak worth £15.30, from Sainsburys, Hastings, on January 30. He was given a six month conditional discharge.

Samantha Clarke (age 42), of Mount Pleasant Road, Hastings, pleaded guilty to stealing three bottles of Champagne from Aldi, in Hastings, worth £29.91, on February 1. She was given a six month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £29.91 compensation.

Sam Painter (aged 28), of Cooden Drive, Bexhill, pleaded guilty to causing £260 damage to the window of a Skoda Octavia car at Bexhill on December 11. He was fined £233 and ordered to pay compensation of £408.64.

James Attrell (aged 28), of Wishing Tree Road, pleaded guilty to driving a van on Sedlescombe Road North, on September 27 while over the drink drive limit. He was fined £500 and banned for one year.
