SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: Many thanks to the Friends of South Malling and particularly Mandi Ramshaw, for organising an amazing Camping event on the school field last Saturday. Lots of families arrived with their tents to camp out under the stars, enjoy a barbecue, a bacon butty and play table tennis, rounders, football and croquet. There was also a camp fire, music and storytelling, all on the school field. It is that time of year again when the school needs to get the garden ready for winter. Mrs Hunt and Mrs Swan would love some help (adults only please) on Saturday October 1 from 9am to 11am. Tea, coffee and homemade cake supplied. You don't have to come for the whole time, a half hour or hour would be great. They are looking forward to seeing any enthusiastic gardeners then. There is also a big thank you to all their families who generously brought in donations of rucksacks for the refugee children in the Calais camps. The school collected 35 this week.

SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: Had a good turnout for the Children’s Craft Morning last Saturday. These events are well prepared and staffed, with good quality craft material and plenty of helpers, so that children could get stuck in to a variety of creative activities, with a Harvest theme, which they took home with them. Parents stayed around for chats and refreshments. There was a kind of focussed busyness mixed with a background hum of conversation. This Sunday, there is a service of Morning praise at 9.30am led by the Associate Vicar, with a talk by Revd Jules Middleton and Music by the Band. All are welcome.

TENANTS AND RESIDENTS: Met on Monday for one of the regular association meetings. They were told that Matt Moulding has taken over the management of Malling Foodbank again, and King’s Church has agreed to continue to provide accommodation for the event, at least for a while. The Foodbank is open on Mondays between 12.45pm and 2pm. Customers will need to have a referral from one of the range of social services entitled to refer, and there is a cost of £1. Members were told that Local PCSOs will no longer attend meetings, this was felt to be a pity because they have been very responsive when members have raised issues. The Summer Play Scheme had been very popular and successful. Seventy six children over the age of 8 years attended over the five weeks with 22 families with children below 8 years. There was a range of different arts and craft activities and sports equipment to use. All children engaged positively in the activities. Adults and older children also helped out. Children helped to plan the activities, so they remained relevant and enjoyable. The next meeting is the AGM on November 14 at 7pm.
