Mastermind! Are you ready to rock?

AN heavy-metal music fan from Hailsham has appeared on BBC's Mastermind programme.

Rachel Hobbs, 32, a science technician at St Bede's Senior School, can be seen being grilled in the famous black leather chair on October 8.

Her specialist subject was the hard rock band Iron Maiden.

She has been a life-long fan of the group's music since being introduced to them at the age of seven by her mother.

Last year she even took her mother and daughter to an Iron Maiden concert at Earl's court.

Miss Hobbs decided to use her knowledge of Iron Maiden as her specialist subject on Mastermind.

She said: 'I was worried that nerves might take over.

'But the adrenalin sees you through and you are just concentrating on the questions.'

Miss Hobbs went to film studios in Manchester to take part in filming.

She was in the lead after the first round with 16 points after answering presenter John Humphrys' questions about Iron Maiden.

And in the general knowledge round, Miss Hobbs was just one point behind winning over all.

Her final score was an impressive 25 points.

Mastermind has fuelled the science technician's ambitions and she has already applied for next year's Mastermind.

This time her specialist subject will be the Promethea sci-fantasy comics of Alan Moore.
