OUTGOING Battle mayor Richard Bye is ending his term on a high, with an invitation to Buckingham Palace.

Cllr Bye, who stood down from the role on Tuesday, will be representing the town at a royal garden party on June 10.

Cllr Bye, who held the role for two years, said he was “pleased” to represent Battle and “help put it on the map”.

He told the Observer: “I was extremely honoured to be elected as Battle Town Mayor in 2012, especially with it being the Olympic year.

“However I think it was an even greater honour to be selected to serve for a second year.

“There have been many special moments for me to remember, such as meeting Joanna Lumley, The Bishop of Chichester, and the new Bishop of Lewes, and there are many more that I have been honoured to have attended.

“But the one that I will remember above all else is the invite that I have received inviting my wife and I to a Buckingham Palace garden Party on June 10.

“What a great honour to have been invited as the Mayor of Battle and I am pleased that I will be able to represent the Town of Battle and to help put it on the map.”
