Medals bloom for county towns

Towns from around the county have come away with a clutch of medals at the South East in Bloom Awards '“ despite a hosepipe ban and some torrential rain this summer.

After a year's hard work planting and pruning the county's green-fingered enthusiasts did the county proud with several of our towns winning overall prizes for their class.

Horsham won the overall award for large town/small city with a population of more than 35,000 while Haywards Heath took the main prize for large town/small city with a population of under 35,000.

Steyning was overall winner of Small Town and Bognor Regis was awarded the title for Coastal Resort while nearby Aldwick took the title for Urban Community. Crawley's Memorial Gardens clinched the title for Park/Large Garden.

Prizes were presented by former Olympic Gold Medallist Duncan Goodhew at an awards ceremony in Southampton.
