More bollards to be installed at Bognor station

New bollards to stop motorists parking in front of Bognor Regis railway station could be installed this summer.

Southern Railway has applied for planning permission to put in 28 bollards to add to the existing 15 on the forecourt.

The company's intention is to prevent vehicles being parked on the pedestrian area in front of the main station entrance.

The bollards will also enable Southern Railways to minimise the terrorist risk to the building in line with its security grading as a category B risk station.

Of the planned bollards, 20 will be fixed and the other eight drop down.

Their design will match the existing period cast-iron bollards.

But the placing of these in the mid-1990s enabled motorists to easily pass between them and park illegally on the piazza.

Southern's application will be decided by Arun District Council.

The council also needs to grant listed building consent for any works because of the station's status as a grade two listed building.
