MP backs residents' development concerns

CONCERNED residents met with their local councillors and MP to discuss fears over development.

Around 30 residents of Mill Road, in North Lancing, met with East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton, county councillor Carson Albury and district councillor Keith

Dollemore, on Monday.

The residents have been concerned about a recent planning application for building in the garden of a house in Mill Road, and feared further developments would have an adverse impact on the area.

Mr Loughton said: "All over the south east, the infrastructure is creaking at the seams.

"More and more communities are being forced to take on unsustainable housing developments and this is seriously impacting on the quality of life."

Mr Loughton explained local authorities were under pressure to meet government housing targets, and highlighted developments in Worthing where houses with large gardens had been replaced with flats by developers.

"With all the local pressures we have on A27 congestion, water shortages and health services under threat, for example, this seriously threatens the quality of life of my constituents," Mr Loughton said.

He added: "People in Lancing just as much as Worthing, and other parts of Adur, need to be vigilant. I hope they will be organising themselves into a residents' association to fight any further unacceptable proposals if they come along."

Together with local councillors, he offered his full support and said it was good to have the opportunity to discuss this important issue with them at close hand.
