Much needed improvements were carried out at the hall following a public fund-raising appeal.

It now features a new range of energy saving measure.

Ahead of his surgery which he held jointly with Rother District Councillor Ian Jenkins, Greg had a tour of the building with parish councillor Grey Metcalfe who managed the renovation project and local architect Dominic Manning. Greg was delighted to see the innovative use of renewable energy systems for the community hall including both solar PV and solar thermal panels and an air source heat pump. These systems coupled with new wall and roof insulation not only cut the costs of running the hall but also generate an income.

Mr Barker said: “I was greatly impressed with the high standard of work carried out on this historic building. I can remember my own children coming to playgroup here before the renovation and it really is an amazing transformation.

“The building is now impressive and provides a light and spacious building for use of the local community.

“ It is an efficient building that whilst retaining its important links to the past has secured its place in the future life of the village for generations to come.”
