The teen won a Highly Commended ‘Inspire the House’ award for his work in founding Tyler’s Trust, a charity which distributes gift boxes to children enduring lengthy periods in hospital.

Mr Herbert nominated the teen for Most Inspirational Young Person at the 9th Annual Kids Count Inspiration Awards Evening after meeting him last year.

Tyler’s Trust has so far gifted over 60 boxes to hospitalised children.

The Barnham resident has endured long stays in hospital himself, having battled through 16 operations for a brain tumour and his eyesight, during which he saw the joy small gifts could bring to those undergoing treatment.

Mr Herbert said: “I was inspired by Tyler when I met him, and that’s why I was so pleased to nominate him. He is a remarkable and brave young man.

“It is wonderful he has chosen to start a charity to help other young people and their families when he has been through so much himself.”
