MP welcomes boost for road and rail users

RYE MP Amber Rudd has welcomed an announcement by the Chancellor that the Government will be freezing fuel duty and capping rail ticket increases.

The Government will be freezing fuel duty, by deferring the 3.02 pence per litre fuel duty increase due to take effect on 1 January 2012 to 1 August 2012; the second increase planned for August 2012 will be cancelled.

The Government has limited the rail fare increases to a maximum of six percent.

Amber commented: “I welcome both of these measures, which will help hard pressed families with the cost of living; this is good news for rail users and drivers in Rye and the surrounding villages.”
