NEW BIKE TO BOOST SAFETY CAMPAIGN

Chief Constable Joe Edwards, himself a keen motorcyclist, will take possession of the 1450cc touring model that will be used by officers from the Force's Road Policing Department, in their efforts to educate riders in road safety and safe riding practices.

Mr Edwards said: "It is important that bike riders ride their machines in a responsible manner whilst enjoying the beautiful Sussex scenery. I also wish to reassure riders that my officers are there to ensure the safety of motorcyclists throughout the Force area at all times. The support of local businesses helps us to continue the education process and we are grateful to John Shaw for his support."

John Shaw, owner of Shaw Harley-Davidson, on the A22 between East Hoathly and Horsebridge, said; "We have a very good relationship with Sussex Police and as a Harley-Davidson dealer we are extremely keen on good riding practices and road safety in general. I am delighted that the loan of this bike will help officers with their continued education of riders."

Bikesafe is a nationally recognised police-led road safety partnership with local councils, with courses held throughout the year for motor cycle riders in Sussex. The object is to reduce casualties among bikers by passing on tips and knowledge, to give an insight into safer, smoother riding and a heightened awareness."
