The Rotary Club of Senlac, which draws members from and serves Hastings, Bexhill and Rother, has welcomed a long serving Rotarian as it’s new President for the second time.
Roger Young was inducted as president at a meeting of the club held at the Cooden Beach Hotel last month; at the start of the new Rotary year.
Roger, who is 59 years old, has been a Rotarian for 24 years having joined Senlac Rotary in 1991.
Roger is well versed in his new role as he was also the club’s president in the 2004-2005 year. He is the first Senlac Rotarian to serve twice as President.
Senlac Rotary Club press officer, Colin Goldsack, says Roger was the perfect candidate for the role. “He successfully organised the ever popular Senlac Rotary Classic Show and Craft Fayre for eight years raising some £100,000 in that time,” he said.
“He was also one of the six original members of the Yellow Men of Kadongdong; the Senlac Rotary supported project in North West Kenya.”
Born in Surrey, Roger was in the Royal Engineers prior to starting a career in sales. He moved to Sussex in 1985 and in 1990 started up his own business, Ark Supplies, supplying cleaning and hygiene products and catering disposables and packaging.
Roger lives in St Leonards on Sea, is married to Karen and has a son and grandson.
Apart from Rotary activities Roger has three classic cars of his own, enjoys travelling, gardening, eating out and spending as much time with his family as he can.
Roger says his philosophy for his one year term as President is to help disadvantaged and homeless young people achieve their hopes, dreams and aspirations. “Being a Rotarian means I able to put something into society and help those less fortunate,” he said. “I look forward to my second term and to new challenges.”
