NFU resists drought order

Grower businesses in West Sussex will be seriously affected by the proposed drought order, says the NFU.

It has submitted an official objection to three water companies making applications for drought orders in South East England.

The companies, which include Southern Water, propose placing restrictions on non essential uses of water in order to tackle the very low water levels in the region.

Although these restrictions will not apply to commercial horticulture, they will apply to local authorities watering bedding planta, hanging baskets and newly laid turf in pubic places which will have a direct impact on horticultural businesses.
